NutriLock™
We offer a range of lock solutions to meet the individual needs of each patient. NutriLock™ has proven particularly suitable for vascular access devices (VAD) used in cancer treatment and parenteral nutrition. Thanks to the antimicrobial agent taurolidine, it protects patients against catheter-related complications.
Indication and effect
NutriLock™ has been approved for instillation in all central-venous access systems. It prevents the formation of bacterial biofilm and thereby keeps catheters infection-free. The lock solution is recommended for catheters in parenteral nutrition.
Composition
NutriLock™ contains 2 % taurolidine. This substance has a broad antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (incl. MRSA and VRE) and fungi (e.g. Candida).
Application
In-between food intakes via parenteral nutrition or chemotherapy sessions, NutriLock™ remains in the VAD. Please note that medical staff must respect the filling volume of each catheter or port system.
Expert recommendations
Taurolidine-based lock solutions such as NutriLock™ are recommended in national and international guidelines. For patients receiving dialysis treatment via VAD, we recommend TauroLock™-Hep500.
Contraindications
We do not recommend using NutriLock™ for patients who:
- have displayed allergic reactions to taurolidine
- are concurrently taking medication that interferes with taurolidine
Safety
Before using the device, NutriLock™ must be aspirated with a syringe and then flush the VAD with saline. If aspiration is not feasible, slow flushing of NutriLock™ (not more than 1 ml per 3 seconds) prior to the next treatment will not cause any systemic effect due to its active ingredient.
Package sizes
NutriLock™ is available in 3 ml ampoules (single dose, 10 ampoules per box). Please note that each ampoule can only be used once.
Storage & transport
NutriLock™ must be stored at temperatures between 15 °C and 30 °C. Please note that you must not freeze the lock solution under any circumstances.
